Help me choose a Tacticool .22 Empty

Want to get the kids into shooting and thought "What a better way with a tacticool .22." I've been in the military for 12 years so the obvious choice would be a AR15 .22 cal version. I really like the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22, but haven't found the Magpul version I like. I've been also interested in the Ruger SR22 rifle. It dosn't have the functions like an AR, but has the 10/22 action I also like. I will be building an AR soon so the other option would be is to get a .22 upper.

What are your thoughts?
